Folk Band of the Year Nomination November 1, 2016

What a week it’s been. We were on the road in Germany. Four of us are now back in Glasgow and our fiddle player Eilidh is in Ghana exploring some new music. Thanks to everyone who came to see us.

While we were gone we were informed that we have been nominated for Folk Band of the Year at the MG Alba Scots Music Awards. We are over the moon to say the least and would like to thank everyone who nominated us, especially Simon Thoumire and the team at Hands Up For Trad.

Below is a link where you can vote for us and we’ll see you in Dundee on the 3rd of December for the Award Ceremony. Should be a cracking night.

This week we will be making our fourth visit to Germany for five gigs (literally) across the country! We’re particularly looking forward to making a return trip to the Nuremberg Folk Club where we received such a great reception last autumn. We’re also looking forward to sampling the culinary delights of the various autobahn service stations (photos to follow!)

New Line Up at Bathgate and the Edinburgh Fringe September 1, 2016

Never ones to stay still for long we’ve been busy with a few trips to the East over the past couple of days.

Firstly to the Edinburgh Fringe where we played to packed houses at The National Museum of Scotland and the Acoustic Music Centre at St Brides. Then on to Bathgate where we found ourselves working with the very talented Scottish Music Group at Bathgate Academy. Good luck preparing for your Christmas concert guys. A huge thank you to Live Music Now Scotland and John Barrow for having us.

We’re now looking forward to a bit of time off before we hit the road to Germany in October. Tour dates can be found on the shows section of our website. Looking forward to seeing you.

Colin’s Farewell August 22, 2016

Since forming in 2010 we have had some incredible times. From playing our first gig in St Peters church in Partick for a Burns night to walking out on stage to well over 1000 people, we have grown and developed as both performers and people.

This month we bid a sad farewell to our piper, whistle and clarinet player Colin, who over the last 6 years has played an important role as both a musician and raconteur in our live performances. Colin will be missed by us and we wish him well in his future endeavours.

Barluath will continue as a five piece line up and is looking forward to heading on the road to Germany in October. This will be our 4th trip there as a band so we’ll be in rehearsal till then getting some new songs together for you all.

Best wishes and see you on the road,

Barluath

England, France and Edinburgh August 16, 2016

What a summer it’s been so far.

In July we were south of the Border to play at the Village Pump and Warwick Festivals. The weather was great and we got Saturday night off to enjoy the Proclaimers in concert. Win Win!!

Last week we headed to France to play at the Festival Interceltique de Lorient. No Proclaimers spotted there but still a fabulous week of songs, tunes and 2 wonderful gigs.

Back to Glasgow now for a few rehearsals before our performance at the Acoustic Music Centre at St Brides on the 26th of August. Come and say hi if your about.

Cheers for now,

Barluath x
